Venue: The Orchard Centre (between West Bar Police Station & the Fire Station Museum), 14-18 Westbar Green, Sheffield S1, 2DA
Number of PK Cities on the planet: 348
Theme: ‘Cultural Sheffield’
Well we didn’t win it. Many people cried out in anger. Some people cried out in joy, but don’t think any one actually cried.
What does the cultural bid mean for a city? Does Sheffield really need that status or are we already a cultural melting pot, quietly simmering away whether the heat is on or not?
Sheffield is ‘one’ of the greenest cities in Europe. We have one of the most impressive track records of people coming here & staying to live. We have a massive creative & digital industry. The recent success of Tramlines & the veritable bevvy of famous Sheffield music artists, artisans, poets, writers, designers, innovators, entrepreneurs, athletes….breathe…would suggest, we’re already pretty & pretty darn good at it too.
